Facial fillers are injectable products available in several types, including hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as the JUVÉDERM® line, and collagen growth-triggering formulas, such as SCULPTRA®. Age-related skin concerns can be treated with precision injections of various dermal fillers. HA fillers provide immediate enhancements by plumping the skin for a more Refreshed look. Who is a Candidate for Facial Fillers?

Various facial issues can be treated successfully with precision-injected facial fillers. A good candidate for these treatments should be in good general health, be a non-smoker, be free from allergies to any ingredient in the filler or have an autoimmune disorder or condition or some skin conditions. Generally, any individual who wants to restore or add volume is a good candidate for these treatments.

Dr. Miller's Approach to Dermal Fillers

To see how facial fillers can rejuvenate facial appearance, an understanding of the facial aging process is helpful. The face begins to show signs of aging, most notably due to the loss of facial volume. This volume loss in the face is similar to a balloon losing air. As the volume diminishes, facial skin becomes lax, sags, and develops wrinkles.

Dr. Miller ensures his patients are educated about how volume loss occurs deep within the skin, affecting the facial fatty tissue, collagen, and the thickness and width of the bones in our face. Facial volume provides support and structure to the skin, keeping the skin firm around the cheeks, eyes, jawline, and mouth. Volume loss at the temples causes the eyebrows to drop, leaving a gaunt, hollow look on the upper face. This is why restoring volume to our face is so important.

What Can Facial Fillers Treat?

Facial fillers can treat an array of facial issues, including:

  • Loss of facial volume at temples, cheeks, or other areas
  • Add subtle volume at the jawline
  • Correct minor nose shape flaws
  • Plump thin lips or enhance Cupid’s bow
  • Smooth acne scars
  • Add volume to a receding chin
  • Smooth smile lines
  • Add cheek volume with a subtle lift to the skin below

What Dermal Filler is Right for You?

Most current fillers, such as the JUVÉDERM® line of products, are volumizing gels typically placed superficially in lines or folds or deeper if facial volume loss has occurred. Semi-permanent fillers such as SCULPTRA® can be placed more deeply in the tissues to provide long-lasting volume correction where it’s needed most. As an added benefit, SCULPTRA® stimulates the tissues to produce collagen and slows the progression of aging. Consequently, SCULPTRA® is considered a unique class of facial fillers known as bio-stimulators.

Facial Fillers FAQ

What types of fillers are available?

Dr. Miller offers a variety of fillers, SCULPTRA and the entire JUVÉDERM line of products: VOLUMA XC, Vollure XC, Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, and Volbella XC.

How long will the results last?

Dermal fillers usually last 6 to 24 months or longer. Fillers are constantly improving, and many last for two years or more! Dr. Miller uses a specialized injection technique for SCULPTRA or JUVÉDERM treatments to restore volume to the temple area for results that last two years or longer. (View the video to learn more about temple filling).

How many treatments will I need?

Dr. Miller believes dermal filler treatments offer the best results when performed regularly, with treatment sessions typically spaced several months apart. Individuals interested in SCULPTRA will require more frequent treatment sessions initially, usually every 6 to 8 weeks. Sometimes, dermal fillers may be combined with BOTOX® and other skin treatments for optimal results.

Which product is right for me?

We will evaluate skin quality during a personal consultation. During this time, an individualized treatment plan is created to for the best results based on the patient’s unique aesthetic goals. People with significant skin sagging or excessive skin laxity may be better suited for facial aesthetic surgery.

What is a “liquid facelift?”

A “Liquid facelift” is a popular marketing term used for a treatment that combines a wrinkle-reducing injectable (BOTOX or XEOMIN) and dermal fillers to produce a more comprehensive level of facial rejuvenation. At Refreshed Aesthetic Surgery, we call this treatment a non-surgical facelift because we may add an energy treatment, such as laser resurfacing, for superior results. This combination of products and treatments, performed by Dr. Miller, can take years off facial appearance. For patients with more significant skin laxity or volume loss, non-surgical treatments do not produce the lasting results of a custom facelift, neck lift, or other facial plastic surgery.
