Voluma® is the latest and most technologically advanced filler on the market, and is produced by Allergan, the makers of Botox. Voluma® received its FDA approval for reversing the signs of volume loss in the mid-face and cheeks in 2013, and has since become one of the most popular fillers at our Aliso Viejo office located in Orange County.
What makes Voluma® so special is its special gel-like properties. Many fillers such as Restylane, Radiesse, and Juvederm Ultra are excellent dermal fillers for lines, wrinkles, and folds, but Voluma® is specifically designed to add lift and volume to deflated facial features. As an example, when a syringe of Voluma® is emptied onto a flat surface it maintains its structure; that is, it looks like a Hershey’s Kiss, whereas other fillers look more like a puddle. This structural integrity provides lift and fullness to deflated cheeks, temples, and other facial areas. Couple this with the added benefit of lasting up to two years and one can see why Voluma® is so popular.
Treatments of Voluma® are very well tolerated with most patients having minimal to no bruising and only mild swelling. Voluma® is manufactured with numbing medication in the product so you are provided long lasting numbing while the product is being injected. The reason for the reduced bruising and swelling with Voluma®, when compared to other fillers, is that Voluma® is injected deep in the tissues where few blood vessels and nerves exist. Additionally, Voluma® is often injected with a cannula (think needle with a blunt, non-sharp point) which adds to the virtual elimination of bruising and discomfort.
